Unexpectedly you will find that Slovakian has a great range of food on offer as much of Slovakian food isinfluenced by its neighbours, especially Hungary and Austria. Soup and stews (Hungarian goulash) are very popular with the local Slovakians. Soups include bean soup, pea soup, mushroom and lentil soups and sheep-cheese soup. Feta cheese dumplings (bryndzove halusky), potato dumplings and spicy stuffed potato pancakes are traditional dishes. Mushrooms, potatoes and sauerkraut are eaten with poultry, pork, lamb, game and fish (trout, carp and pike).
The cuisine of the Slovakia includes many types of pastries and cakes, for example, cakes with curd cheese filling, fruitcake, honey cakes and gingerbread. Kolache is a traditional pastry.
Beer, wine and plum brandy are produced in the Republic.
Although Slovakian eating is incedibly resonable overcharging of tourists is common in Bratislava. Check the menu for the prices. Many are posted outside. 23% tax may be added to the bill.
