Smokovce , a charming mountain town and center of the High Tatra resort, is comprised of four smaller sections: old, new, upper and lower Smokovce . it boasts a mélange of architectural styles ranging from alpine – styled fin-de-siecle grandeur to 1930s functionalist to streamlined post- war designs . Nearby Hrebienok, accessed by the funicular , spreads out at the foot of Slavkovky Peak  and provides skiing with evening illumination for beginners and families , as well as for more advanced skiers . From here , there is a pleasant hiking trail to the cold creek waterfalls.

Ski resort Starý Smokovec

Oldest resort in Tatras region has preserved its original appearance since nineteen century. Ski slopes have mostly easy and intermediate level of difficulty and are interesting for beginners. For your convenience, there two hoop lifts with capability of servicing 1100 guests per hour. Ski center Hrebienok is the most popular, equipped with 6 hoop type lifts and 1 funicular, servicing 3740 visitors per hour. Maximum slope length is about 3 km. Slopes are dominantly easy and intermediate category of difficulty, with some slalom slopes for experienced skiers. The ski slope Jakubkova lúka is most suitable for beginners. 2.5 km long sled slope in Starý Smokovec is illuminated for night sledding. Resort has a skating rink. Stores, restaurants, dance clubs, bank, Slovak national restaurnt “Koliba” are open in Smokovec. Balneological resort specializing in treatment of upper respiratory diseases also is located in Stary Smokovec.
